This site is affected by storm tides which increase stream water levels at the gage. Stage values reported are believed to be reasonably accurate, but the higher stage readings may produce estimates of discharge that are higher than actual.

LOCATION.--Lat 39°09'49.4", long 75°31'08.7", Kent County, DE, Hydrologic Unit 02040207, on left bank
   150 ft upstream from Division Street Bridge in Dover, 1,950 ft downstream from Silver Lake, and
   12.5 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA.--31.9 mi2.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--January 1958 to current year.
GAGE.--Water-stage recorder, concrete control, and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is -0.77 ft above
   North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Prior to June 1973, at gage datum 0.50 ft higher.
REMARKS.--Flow affected by Silver Lake.  Flow frequently affected by tide and wind effects. 
   U.S. Geological Survey satellite data-collection platform at station. Water-quality records for some 
   prior periods have been collected at this location. 
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum discharge, 2,390 ft3/s, Aug. 28, 2011, gage height, 11.72 ft;
   minimum discharge, 0.0 ft3/s, no flow at times in 1959, 1961, and 1962.
COOPERATION.--Funding for the operation of this station is provided by the Delaware Geological Survey
   and the U.S. Geological Survey.
This station managed by the MD-DE-DC Water Science Center Dover office.
