LOCATION - Lat 41°49'51.3", long 100°05'58.3" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NW 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.33, T.22 N., R.24 W., Blaine County, NE, Hydrologic Unit 10210001, on left bank near upstream side of bridge on State Highway 2 at North edge of Dunning, 1.0 mi upstream from Dismal River, and at mile 204.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,830 mi² of which 1,751 mi² probably is noncontributing.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR NE-94-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - September 1945 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry. Datum of gage is 2,605.22 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD1988). Prior to Sept. 12, 1946, non-recording gage, and Sept. 12, 1946 to Sept. 30, 1962, water-stage recorder at site 0.2 mi upstream at datum 2,607.17 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD1929). Oct. 1, 1962 to May 15, 1989, at present site, and May 15, 1989 to Mar. 20, 1990, at site 0.2 mi upstream, both at datum 2,607.14 ft above NVGD1929.
REMARKS - Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for estimated daily discharges, which are poor, unless otherwise noted.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum peak flow, 2,480 ft³/s, March 25, 1996, caused by ice jam release upstream, gage height, 6.15 ft. Maximum peak stage, 7.09 ft, January 14, 1993, backwater from ice. WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum, 32.4°C, July 22, 2016; minimum, 0.0°C, on many days during winter periods.
