Estimated flood stage for this gage is 6 feet. This gage is operated for flood warning purposes and discharges are only determined for peak flows.

gage photoLOCATION. --Lat 40°57'11", long 74°11'05" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, North Haledon Borough, Passaic County, NJ, Hydrologic Unit 02030103, on left upstream wingwall of culvert on Overlook Avenue in North Haledon, 0.5 mi upstream from Oldham Pond Dam, and 1.5 mi west of Hawthorne.
DRAINAGE AREA. --3.89 mi2.
PERIOD OF RECORD. --Annual maximum, water years 1945, 1979 to current year. Miscellaneous and occasional low-flow measurements, water years 1979-85, 1988 to 2006.
GAGE. --Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 209.68 ft above NGVD of 1929.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD. --Maximum discharge, 970 ft3/s (from rating curve extended above 240 ft3/s on basis of culvert computation peak flow), May 16, 1990, gage height, 10.93 ft.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD. --Maximum discharge, 3,100 ft3/s (computed by State Water Policy Commission at Squaw Lake Dam, 0.2 mi upstream of gage), Jul 23, 1945, gage height, not determined.
COOPERATION. --Funding for this gage is provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, Passaic Flood Warning System.
