LOCATION.--Lat 43° 10'28", long 114° 19'07"(Rev.)(NAD83), in SE1/4 SE1/4 sec.9, T.3 S., R.18 E., Lincoln County, Shoshone Ice Cave quad., Hydrologic Unit 17040219, at head of canal, 300 ft east of Shoshone-Hailey highway, 5.5 mi downstream from Magic Dam, and 12 mi northwest of Richfield.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--April 1925 to September 1948 (irrigation seasons only except 1937-46) (discontinued).
GAGE.--Staff gage. Elevation of gage is 4,525 ft above NGVD of 1929, from barometer. Prior to Sept. 30, 1945, water-stage recorder 100 ft downstream at same datum.
REMARKS.--Canal diverts water from right bank of Big Wood River in sec.9, T.3 S., R.18 E., from which point it approximately parallels river for 10 mi to head of North Gooding Canal in sec.15, T.4 S., R.18 E., where water is either diverted into North Gooding Canal or returned to Big Wood River. Canal is used to avoid large channel losses in natural bed of river.
COOPERATION.--Gage readings furnished by Water District No.7 AB (Big Wood and Little Wood Rivers).
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum discharge, 706 ft3/s May 28, 1927,
gage height, 4.00 ft, from rating curve extended above 600 ft3/s;
no flow during long periods in each year.
