LOCATION - Lat 33°25'09", long 86°58'58" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Jefferson County, AL, Hydrologic Unit 03160112, near left bank on downstream side of 19th Street bridge, 1.0 mi downstream from Opossum Creek, 2.0 mi west of Bessemer, and at mile 41.38.
DRAINAGE AREA - 52.5 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - Discharge for Jan. 23, 2019 was revised on Feb. 4, 2021, based on review of data.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - January 1946 to December 1947 (gage heights and discharge measurements only). May 1974 to May 1975 (rainfall-runoff site, flood hydrograph only). May 1975 to September 1979. May 1988 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 438.64 ft above NGVD of 1929 (levels by Jefferson County Highway Department). May 2, 1974 to May 14, 1975, rainfall-runoff site at same site and datum.
REMARKS - Record considered good, except for estimated periods, which are poor.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood in February 1936 reached a stage of 18.6 ft present site and datum (discharge not determined), from highwater marks.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 13,000 cfs; Gage height 17.89 ft. Date Sept. 6, 2011.
