02484000 YOCKANOOKANY RIVER NEAR KOSCIUSKO, MS
LOCATION - Lat 33°01'56", long 89°34'40" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NE 1/4 NE 1/4 sec.33, T.14 N., R.7 E., Attala County, MS, Hydrologic Unit 03180001, Choctaw Meridian, on left bank at downstream side of bridge on State Highway 35, 2.0 mi south of Kosciusko.
DRAINAGE AREA - 303 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1504: 1946. WDR MS-80-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - August 1938 to current year. Prior to October 1947, published as Yokahockany River near Kosciusko.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 374.23 ft above NAVD of 1988, (Reference Fram NAD_83 (2011) (EPOCH:2010.0000), (GEOID18).  Prior to 02/10/2023 Datum of gage was 374.34 ft above NGVD of 1929, (levels by U. S. Army Corps of Engineers). Prior to Mar. 28, 1939, nonrecording gage at same site and datum.
COOPERATION - Pearl River Valley Water Supply District and MDEQ
REMARKS - Records good, except for periods of estimated data which are considered poor. Satellite telemeter at station.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood in December 1932 reached a stage of about 17 ft, from information by U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.
CLIMATOLOGICAL RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Precipitation Record: June 15, 2001 to current
INSTRUMENTATION - 8-inch Design Analysis H-340 (Sn 3288) tipping-bucket precipitation gage was re-located to front roof ledge of USGS walk-in shelter. Top of the collection funnel is ~ 20 feet above low water channel and is not equipped with a wind shield. A permanent 15-foot ladder is attached to well for maintenance access.

Precipitation Extremes before SDI rain gauge installation (Mar 29, 2016)

Maximum daily sum = 6.82 inches on Oct 16, 2006

Maximum accumulated sum = 6.56 inches on Sep 26-27, 2002 (TS Isadore)

Maximum daily sum = 6.44 inches on Oct 30, 2019

Maximum accumulated sum = 8.90 inches on Feb 10-13, 2020

REMARKS - Rainfall is recorded at a resolution of 0.01 inch with a 25 inch/hour maximum recorder rate.
