03423000 FALLING WATER RIVER NEAR COOKEVILLE, TN
LOCATION - Lat 36°04'38", long 85°31'17" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, White County, TN, Hydrologic Unit 05130108, on the upstream side of the bridge on Randolph Mill Road near site of Old Burgess Mill, .42 miles downstream from Hudgens Creek, 1.0 miles upstream from Post Oak Creek, 5 miles south of Cookeville, Tennessee, and 10 miles north of Sparta, Tennessee.
DRAINAGE AREA - 67 mi² of which 21.1 mi² probably is noncontributing.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - June 1932 to September 1956 (at Old Burgess Mill); May 25, 2016 to present.
GAGE - At current location, data collection platform. Datum of gage is 891.90 ft [NAVD88 (computed using GEOID18)]. At old Burgess Mill, staff gage read twice daily, datum of gage was 893.49 ft above mean sea level, datum of 1929, supplementary adjustment of 1936 (levels by Corps of Engineers).
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Floods of 5,630 ft³/s on June 28, 1928 and 5,330 ft³/s on March 23, 1929, from floodmarks (WSP 1726).
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 6,500 ft³/s, February 6, 2020, gage height, 25.00 ft; minimum daily discharge, 0.9 ft³/s, October 15, 1936.
