  • Water-Year Summary reports summarize a year of hydrologic data in a printer-friendly format.
  • For water years 2014 onward, choose a water year and parameter and an on-demand Water-Year Summary report will be generated.
  • For water years 2006 through 2013, choose a water year and an Annual Water Data Report will be provided.
  • For water years 2005 and earlier, Annual Water Data Reports may be available in digital format.
  • Not all sites have reports available for every water year.

USGS Water-Year Summary 2024
07380120 AMITE RIVER AT PORT VINCENT, LA
LOCATION - Lat 30°19'57", long 90°51'07" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in sec.19, T.8 S., R.4 E., Livingston Parish, LA, Hydrologic Unit 08070202, on downstream side of bridge on State Highway 42, 0.1 mi east of intersection of State Highway 42 and 431, 0.2 mi west of intersection of State Highway 42 and 16, 0.5 mi downstream from mouth of Grays Creek.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,596 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - For water years 2004 through 2007 the annual instantaneous maximum discharge was incorrectly listed as 43,500 ft³/s, Apr. 30, 1997. This value was an annual maximum daily mean discharge.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1984 to current year. Oct. 25, 1983 to Sept. 30, 1984 (gage height only). Prior to Oct. 25, 1983, (gage height only) in reports of Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and acoustic velocity meter. Datum of gage is 1.36 feet below NAVD88 GEOID12b EPOCH 2010.0000 and 0.00 NGVD29. Prior to Oct. 25, 1983, operated by United States Corps of Engineers, same site and location.
REMARKS - No estimated daily discharges.

Records fair.

No flow at times throughout the year.

NGVD29 datum statement is included for historical consistency.

Satellite telemetry and rain gage at station.

Maximum daily discharge of 69,500 ft³/s for 1990 water year occurred on Jan. 28, 1990. Maximum was estimated based on measurements and hydrographic comparisons due to a large debris build up at the site effecting recorded values. Annual maximum instantaneous discharge was not computed until acoustic velocity meter was installed during the 1999 water year.

Positive and negative flows at this site are defined by direction and are specified to be parallel to the channel at the gage location. The positive flow direction is southeast.

Streamflow at this site is affected significantly by astronomical tides. Astronomical tides cause significant cycles of approximately 24.84 hours at this site. Because a different portion of the 24.84 hour tidal cycle is averaged in successive daily (24-hour) computations, a systematic secondary oscillation, unrelated to basin hydrology and having a period of about two weeks may be apparent in daily data published from October 1987 to September 2015.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum gage height, 14.65 ft, Apr. 9, 1983; minimum gage height, -1.04 ft, Jan. 19, 1977.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum positive discharge, 199,000 ft³/s, Aug. 15, 2016; maximum recorded gage height, 17.90 ft, Aug. 15, 2016; maximum recorded negative discharge, -2500 ft³/s, September 7, 2023; minimum recorded gage height, -0.97 ft, Dec. 13, 2010.
