LOCATION - Lat 33°44'42", long 116°32'05" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SW 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.11, T.5 S., R.4 E., Riverside County, CA, Hydrologic Unit 18100201, on right bank, 0.8 mi upstream from Murray Canyon Creek, and 6 mi south of Palm Springs.
DRAINAGE AREA - 93.1 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1314: 1936 (instantaneous maximum discharge). WDR CA-88-1: Drainage area. WRD US-2010: 2010.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - January 1930 to January 1942, October 1947 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 668.11 ft above NAVD of 1988. Prior to Jan. 14, 1942, at datum 0.2 ft higher.
REMARKS - No regulation or diversion upstream from station. See schematic diagram of Salton Sea Basin available from the California Water Science Center.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 7,000 ft³/s, Feb. 21, 1980, gage height, 7.29 ft, from rating curve extended above 650 ft³/s, on basis of slope-area measurements at gage heights 6.38 ft and 6.81 ft; no flow for several months in most years.
