LOCATION - Lat 36°59'15", long 121°31'34" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Santa Clara County, CA, Hydrologic Unit 18060002, in Las Animas Grant, on right bank, 0.3 mi downstream from Miller Slough, 2.0 mi upstream from confluence with Pajaro River, and 2.4 mi southeast of Gilroy.
DRAINAGE AREA - 84.2 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - November 2002 to September 2009 (low-flow records only), October 2009 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder, crest-stage gage, and concrete control. Datum of gage is 146.08 ft above NAVD of 1988.
REMARKS - Prior to October 2009, no records were computed above 200 ft³/s. Flows partially regulated by Chesbro Reservoir approximately 16.5 mi upstream from gage, usable capacity, 8,090 acre-ft. Some diversions upstream from station for irrigation.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 3,780 ft³/s, Feb. 20, 2017, gage height, 12.27 ft; maximum gage height, 14.61 ft, Jan 9, 2023; no flow for many days in some years. peak gage height of 11.40 ft with an unknown peak discharge occurred on Dec. 31, 2005, prior to the period of full range discharge computation.
