LOCATION - Lat 42°42'17.4", long 71°09'11.3" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Essex County, MA, Hydrologic Unit 010700,

on left bank, 20 ft downstream from Union Street in Lawrence, MA.

DRAINAGE AREA - 4,672 mi² of which 214 mi² probably is noncontributing.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - August 2012 to current year.
GAGE - Data Collection Platform with satellite telemeter. Datum of gage is NAVD 1988, from levels.
COOPERATION - Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Office of Water Resources.
REMARKS - Records good. Periods of missing record are not estimated. Stage affected by regulated releases from Essex Dam hydropower operations located about 0.7 mi upstream from the gage, releases from dams further upstream in Lowell and New Hampshire, and occasional tidal fluctuations.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum gage height, 21.25 ft, Feb. 27, 2016; minimum gage height <7.61 ft, multiple periods. Minimum operating limit of the gage is 7.61 ft.
