SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Discharge: Continuous record; April 2007 to October 2009 (Discontinued), then reactivated in 2012 to the present. Miscellaneous discharge measurements, water years 1978-2002, 2006-2009, and 2014-2015. Water Quality: miscellaneous water-quality samples taken, water years 1969-present.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with telephone telemeter. Elevation of gage is 200 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929, from topographic map.
COOPERATION - Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
REMARKS - Records fair except those for estimated daily discharge due to variable backwater, which are poor. Discharge records for the 2007 and 2008 water years are published after those for the 2009 water year.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
REMARKS - 2014 WATER-YEAR SUMMARY (min/max info): WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum instantaneous water temperature: 27.6 °C on Jul. 3, 2014; Minimum instantaneous water temperature: 0.0 °C on Dec. 15, 2013 and many other days in winter. SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Maximum instantaneous specific conductance: 1550 µS/cm on Jan. 07, 2014; Minimum instantaneous specific conductance: 262 µS/cm on Mar. 31, 2014. TURBIDITY: Maximum instantaneous turbidity: 67 FMUs on Nov. 27, 2013; Minimum instantaneous turbidity: 0.1 FMUs on Nov. 05, 2013 and other dates. CHLOROPHYLL: Maximum instantaneous chlorophyll: 139 ppb on Jul. 27, 2014; Minimum instantaneous chlorophyll: 0.75 ppb on Feb. 08, 2014. Records for water temperature are rated excellent. Records for specific conductance are rated excellent, except for the following daily values: 2013/11/03 to 2013/11/04, 2013/11/28, 2014/03/28 to 2014/04/14, and 2014/05/30 to 2014/06/10 which are rate good; 2013/10/30 to 2013/11/02, and 2013/11/05 to 2013/11/06 which are rated fair; and 2013/11/07 to 2013/11/27 which are rated poor. The accuracy of turbidity records is generally good; however, the precision of the measurements are rated fair/poor. Records for chlorophyll are not rated; however, continuous chlorophyll concentration data was 2-5 times greater than laboratory concentrations and ranges to nearly an order of magnitude beyond the high-end calibration point. 2013 WATER-YEAR SUMMARY (min/max info): WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum instantaneous water temperature: 29.3 °C on Jul. 19, 2013; Minimum instantaneous water temperature: 0.0 °C on Jan. 23, 2013 and many other days throughout the winter. SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Maximum instantaneous specific conductance: 1170 µS/cm on Dec. 19, 2012; Minimum instantaneous specific conductance: 202 µS/cm on Jun. 14, 2013.
