LOCATION - Lat 41°35'50.97", long 71°59'02.74" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, New London County, CT, Hydrologic Unit 01100001, on left bank behind high school on Slater Avenue at Jewett City, 570 ft downstream from outlet of canal from Wedgewood Mills at mouth of Pachaug River, 1,000 ft downstream from railroad bridge and at mile 6.1.
DRAINAGE AREA - 713 mi².

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - July 1918 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 60.99 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (63.07 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929). Satellite telemetry at station.
REMARKS -

Peak flows are affected by flood-control regulation at East Brimfield Lake, Westville Lake, West Thompson Lake, Hodges Village Reservoir, and Buffumville Lake since 1960. The natural flow regime is altered by regulation at East Brimfield Lake, Westville Lake, West Thompson Lake, Hodges Village Reservoir, Buffumville Lake, Lake Chaubunagungamaug, Quaddick Reservoir, and other small reservoirs in the basin, and by a hydropower plant in Jewett City.

  • Water Year 2021-2022: Records good except for periods of estimated discharges, which are fair.
  • Water Year 2020: Records fair.

  • Water Year 2018: Records good except for periods of estimated discharges, which are fair.

  • EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - The maximum peak flow of 40,700 ft³/s was obtained from rating curve extended above 11,000 ft³/s on basis of computation of peak flows over three nearby dams at gage heights 21.7 ft., 22.5 ft., 24.0 ft., and 29.0 ft. The maximum stage of 29.00 ft. was from flood marks. Minimum discharge: 16.0 ft³/s, Sept. 25, 1948 and Nov. 18, 1950; the result of regulation.
