01174500 EAST BRANCH SWIFT RIVER NEAR HARDWICK, MA
LOCATION - Lat 42°23'36", long 72°14'20" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Worcester County, MA, Hydrologic Unit 01080204, on left bank 100 ft upstream from spillway of regulating dam and 4.6 mi northwest of Hardwick.
DRAINAGE AREA - 43.7 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Discharge: January 1937 to current year. Published as "near Dana" January 1937 to September 1939. Water-quality records: Water year 1957.
GAGE - Data Collection Platform with satellite telemeter. Datum of gage 504.06 ft above NAVD 1988. Prior to May 13, 2020, datum of gage reported as 504.70 ft above NGVD 1929.
COOPERATION - Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Division of Water Supply Protection, Office of Watershed Management.
REMARKS - Records fair except those for estimated daily discharge, which are poor.

Note: The maximum peak flow of 6,780 cfs on Sept. 21,1938 is based on the average of slope-area and contracted-opening measurements. the maximum peak stage of 22.49 ft is the highest since construction of concrete spillway in 1940. The instantaneous low flow of 0.00 cfs on Aug. 7, 1939 has occurred during many water years since records started.
