Water-Year Summary for Site 01467200

Click to hide Water-Year Summary instructions and information
  • Water-Year Summary reports summarize a year of hydrologic data in a printer-friendly format.
  • For water years 2014 onward, choose a water year and parameter and an on-demand Water-Year Summary report will be generated.
  • For water years 2006 through 2013, choose a water year and an Annual Water Data Report will be provided.
  • For water years 2005 and earlier, Annual Water Data Reports may be available in digital format.
  • Not all sites have reports available for every water year.

USGS Water-Year Summary 2023
01467200 DELAWARE RIVER AT BENJAMIN FRANKLIN BRIDGE AT PHILADELPHIA, PA
LOCATION - Lat 39°57'14", long 75°08'16" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Philadelphia County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 02040202, on right bank at river end of pier 12, 150 ft upstream from Ben Franklin bridge, and at Philadelphia.
DRAINAGE AREA - 7,993 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
COOPERATION - Funding for the operation of this station is provided by the Delaware River Basin Commission, City of Philadelphia, Water Department and the U.S. Geological Survey.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - August 1949 to current year.
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: November 1963 to current year. pH: October 1967 to current year. WATER TEMPERATURE: November 1960 to current year. DISSOLVED OXYGEN: October 1961 to current year. TURBIDITY: October 2008 to December 2011. CHLOROPHYLL: January 2017 to current year.
INSTRUMENTATION - Water-quality monitor interfaced with a data collection platform.
REMARKS -

Cross-sectional water quality data is available upon request.

Data collection suspended during winter months. Other interruptions in the record were due to malfunctions of the water-quality sensors or recording instrument. Prior to July 1988, located on edge of pier 11 about 300 ft downstream of pier 12. Since the 2000 water year, pH daily median values are computed instead of pH daily mean values.  Historically water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius were not reported. Water temperature sensors now have the ability to accurately read water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius.

Records for water year 2014 water temperature, specific conductance, and pH are good. Records for water year 2014 dissolved oxygen are good, except October 1 to November 5 and March 26 to September 30, which are fair. Records for water year 2015 water temperature are good, records for specific conductance are good with the exception of April 10-29 which are rated poor, records for pH are good with exception of Mar. 31 to July 14 which are fair, and records for dissolved oxygen which are fair. Records for water year 2016 water temperature and specific conductance are good; records for pH and dissolved oxygen are good with the exception of Oct. 1 to Dec. 1, which are fair. Records for water year 2017 water temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen are good. Records for water year 2017 specific conductance are good, with the exception of July 26 to August 3, which are fair. Records for water year 2017 chlorophyll are good, with the exception of March 31 to April 27, which are fair. Records for water year 2018 water temperature, and specific conductance are good, pH, dissolved oxygen, and chlorophyll are fair. Beginning in water year 2019, water quality records are not rated as "excellent", "good", "fair", or "poor".
