01470500 SCHUYLKILL RIVER AT BERNE, PA
LOCATION - Lat 40°31'21", long 75°59'55" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Berks County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 02040203, on right bank 50 ft upstream from bridge on Township Route 558 at Berne, 0.5 mi upstream from Mill Creek, and 6.5 mi downstream from Little Schuylkill River.
DRAINAGE AREA - 355 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - August 1947 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 309.94 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988.  Prior to November 8, 2022, the datum of gage was reported as 310.65 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Satellite and landline telemetry at station.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey. Funding for this station is provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, and the U.S. Geological Survey.
REMARKS - Some regulation at low flow by mine pumpage and by Still Creek Reservoir (station 01469200) about 25 mi upstream. Record for water year 2014 are good except for those from May 19 to Sept 30 and estimated discharge, which is poor. Records for water years 2015-2017 are good except for flows greater than 6,200 cfs, which are fair, and estimated discharge, which is poor. Records for water years 2018-2021 are good except for flows greater than 7,800 cfs, which are fair, and estimated discharge, which is poor. Records for water years 2022-2023 are fair except estimated discharge, which is poor.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - April 2002 to current year.
COOPERATION - Samples were collected as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Water-Quality Network (WQN) with cooperation from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
REMARKS - As of October 2013, results from discrete water quality samples collected at this site are available through the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System web interface on the "Water Quality for the Nation" webpage. Analyses for pH, water temperature, specific conductance, and dissolved oxygen were performed on site. All other sample analyses were performed at the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection laboratory in Harrisburg, Pa. Some values for filtered parameters exceed values for the corresponding unfiltered parameter. These results are within the limits of analytical precision and methods.
