01482800 DELAWARE RIVER AT REEDY ISLAND JETTY, DE

LOCATION - Lat 39°30'03", long 75°34'07" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, New Castle County, DE, Hydrologic Unit 02040205, Hydrologic Unit 02040205, on dock on streamward side of jetty about 0.4 mi downstream from Reedy Island near Port Penn.

DRAINAGE AREA - 11,200 mi².

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - Water year 1963 to current year.

WATER-QUALITY RECORDS

PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: October 1963 to current year. pH: February 1970 to current year. WATER TEMPERATURES: February 1970 to current year. DISSOLVED OXYGEN: February 1970 to current year. TURBIDITY: April 2009 to December 2011 (discontinued).

INSTRUMENTATION - Water-quality monitor since February 1970. Probes interfaced with a data collection platform since the 1986 water year. Probes placed in situ since July 1998.

REMARKS - Interruptions in the record were due to malfunctions of the equipment. For water year 2014, water temperature, specific conductance and dissolved oxygen records are rated good, the pH record is rated fair. For water year 2015, water temperature rated good; Specific conductance rated good except Apr 22-July 1 which is rated poor; pH rated good Nov 29-Aug 24 and Sept 3- Sept 30, fair Oct 1 Nov28, and poor Aug 24-Sept 2; Dissolved oxygen good Oct 1-Sept 2 and fair Sept3-Sept30. For water year 2016, water temperature, specific conductance are rated good, dissolved oxygen records are rated good with exception of Oct. 1 - Nov. 16 which are fair, and the pH record is rated good with exception of Feb. 20 - Mar. 20 and Apr 1 - 29 which are poor. For water year 2017, specific conductance and dissolved oxygen records are rated good with the exception of Nov 1 - Jan 25, which are fair; water temperature records are rated good with the exception of Nov. 1 - Jan. 25 which is poor; and pH records are rated good with the exception of Nov 1 - Jan 25 and Aug 18 - Sept 30 which are fair. For water year 2018, water temperature and specific conductance records are rated good. Dissolved oxygen and pH records are rated fair. Beginning in water year 2019, water quality records are not rated as "excellent", "good", "fair", or "poor".

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Maximum, 35,600 microsiemens, Nov 15, 1978; minimum, 100 microsiemens, several days in 1969, 1970, 1974 and 1979. pH: Maximum, 8.9, Mar 4, 1980; minimum, 5.4, Dec 31, 1972. WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum, 32.5°C, Jul 23, 1987; minimum, -0.8°C, Feb 6, 17, 2015. (Liquid water can exist at temperatures below freezing when mineral content is high.) TURBIDITY: Maximum, 820 FNU, Nov 19, 2009; minimum, 6.9 FNU, Jul 21, 2010. DISSOLVED OXYGEN: Maximum, 17.1 mg/L, Dec 16, 19, 1976; minimum, 0.3 mg/L, Sep 16, 17, 1971.
