01605500 SOUTH BRANCH POTOMAC RIVER AT FRANKLIN, WV
LOCATION - Lat 38°38'08", long 79°20'17" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Pendleton County, WV, Hydrologic Unit 02070001, on left bank 0.5 mi southwest of Franklin, 2 mi upstream from Friends Run, 2.5 mi downstream from Thorn Creek, and at mile 112.5.
DRAINAGE AREA - 179 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR WV-97-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - May 1940 to September 1969, October 1976 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of the gage is 1,692.92 ft (+/-0.14)  above NAVD 88. The NAVD 1988 datum was determined by a level 2 GNSS survey (Reference Frame NAD_83 (2011) (EPOCH:2010.0000), GEOID18) by USGS on October 26, 2022 and tied to RM-2. Prior to October 26, 2022 the datum of the gage was reported as 1,692.10 ft above NAVD 88 (VERTCON conversion of 1,692.5 ft above NGVD 29) from Army Corps of Engineer's Benchmark.
REMARKS - Maximum discharge, 44,000 ft³/s, from rating curve extended above 15,000 ft³/s on basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of March 1936 reached a stage of about 13 ft, discharge, 18,500 ft³/s.
