01615000 OPEQUON CREEK NEAR BERRYVILLE, VA
LOCATION - Lat 39°10'29", long 78°04'42" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Frederick County, VA, Hydrologic Unit 02070004, on left bank, 1,200 ft upstream of bridge on State Highway 7, 0.4 mi upstream from Abrams Creek, and 5.0 mi west of Berryville.
DRAINAGE AREA - 58.2 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR VA-72-1: 1971 (P). OFR 2006-1308: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1943 to September 1997, October 2002 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 502.48 ft above NAVD of 1988. Prior to July 26, 1949, non-recording gage at site 1,200 ft downstream. July 26, 1949 to September 30, 1997, water-stage recorder at downstream site and datum. October 15, 2002 to current year, at present site and datum.
REMARKS - Some diurnal fluctuation caused by mills upstream. Records from July 18, 1988 to Sept. 30, 1997 affected by water discharged from treatment plant, which was diverted from another drainage basin. Present location of the gage is upstream from treatment plant and as a result, data collected since October 2002 are no longer affected by this inflow. Maximum discharge, 12,600 ft³/s, from rating curve extended above 4,800 ft³/s.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood in October 1942 reached a stage of 18.4 ft, discharge not determined, from information by local residents.
