02131500 LYNCHES RIVER NEAR BISHOPVILLE, SC
LOCATION - Lat 34°15'00", long 80°12'50" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Lee County, SC, Hydrologic Unit 03040202, near center of span on downstream side of bridge on U.S. Highway 15, 1.0 mi upsteam from Seaboard Coast Line Railroad bridge, 2.9 mi northeast of Bishopville, 3.0 mi downstream from Bells Branch, and at river mile 89.5.
DRAINAGE AREA - 675 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY -

The maximum discharge for the water year 2002 has been revised to 1,220 ft cfs, Feb. 10, 2002, gage height, 9.69 ft.

The datum was revised because the original NGVD29 datum was found to be in error by the Level II GNSS survey that was performed by USGS personnel on October 1, 2020.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - May 1942 to current year.
GAGE - Data collection platform. Datum of gage is 154.91 ft above NAVD of 1988. Prior to June 11, 1948, nonrecording gage at site 100 ft upstream at same datum. June 11, 1948 to December 15, 1954, nonrecording gage at present site and datum. September 1971 to February 2002, nonrecording gage at present site and datum.
REMARKS - Gage-height records are generally good to fair. Discharge records are generally good to fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor. Additional details on the accuracy of the records can be obtained by contacting the USGS South Atlantic Water Science Center at gs-w-sc_nwisweb_data_inquiries@usgs.gov.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD -

Maximum discharge for period of record is 29,400 cfs, on September 19, 1945. Maximum gage height for period of record is 22.35 ft, on September 19, 1945. Minimum daily mean discharge for period of record is 33.1 cfs, August 13, 2002. Maximum peak flow for period of record is from a rating curve extended above 12,000 cfs by velocity-area studies. The maximum peak stage for period of record is from floodmarks.
