Click to hide Water-Year Summary instructions and information
  • Water-Year Summary reports summarize a year of hydrologic data in a printer-friendly format.
  • For water years 2014 onward, choose a water year and parameter and an on-demand Water-Year Summary report will be generated.
  • For water years 2006 through 2013, choose a water year and an Annual Water Data Report will be provided.
  • For water years 2005 and earlier, Annual Water Data Reports may be available in digital format.
  • Not all sites have reports available for every water year.

USGS Water-Year Summary 2023
02244040 ST. JOHNS RIVER AT BUFFALO BLUFF NEAR SATSUMA, FL
LOCATION - Lat 29°35'46", long 81°41'00" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SE 1/4 sec.27, T.10 S., R.26 E., Putnam County, FL, Hydrologic Unit 03080103, near left bank, 400 ft upstream from CSX Transportation bridge, 2.4 mi downstream from Cross-Florida Barge Canal, 3.2 mi northwest of Satsuma, and 89 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 6,580 mi². approximately. Includes Paynes Prairie, a diked sinkhole area about 650 mi², which is noncontributing.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - September 1943 to July 1948 (gage heights only), October 1992 to September 2010, October 2010 to current year (filtered).
GAGE - Water-stage recorder, acoustic velocity meter and data-collection platform. Datum of gage is 10.00 ft below NGVD of 1929 and 10.93 ft below NAVD of 1988. Prior to Oct. 1, 1996 at datum 1.00 ft lower.
COOPERATION - This gage is monitored in cooperation with the St. Johns River Water Management District.
REMARKS - Discharge not published some days, due to bad or missing velocity data or gage height data. Streamflow at this site is significantly affected by astronomical tides. Daily mean discharge was computed from filtered unit value discharge data. The Godin low-pass filter was used to remove principal tidal frequencies from unit values. By convention, the U.S. Geological Survey has established ebb (seaward) flows as positive flow and flood (landward) flows as negative flows. The residuals are not total freshwater flows but are a combination of freshwater flows and water storage caused by higher and lower mean sea levels and storm surges from tropical storm events. Instantaneous discharge computed from index-velocity linear regression relation and gage height rating.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD -
SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE:  April 1995 to May 2004, October 2005 to current year.

INSTRUMENTATION - Water-quality monitor and data-collection platform.
REMARKS - Extremes for current year and extremes for period of daily record are based on recorded values and may have been exceeded during periods of no record. April 1995 to May 2004 and October 2005 to September 2008; water temperature, specific conductance and dissolved oxygen published as daily mean. October 2008 to September 2014; water temperature, specific conductance and dissolved oxygen published as instantaneous maximum and minimum. October 2014 to September 2019; water temperature, specific conductance, and dissolved oxygen, published as instantaneous maximum and minimum, and daily mean.  October 2019 to July 2020; water temperature and specific conductance, published as instantaneous maximum and minimum, and daily mean. July 2020 to current year; water temperature, specific conductance, and dissolved oxygen, published as instantaneous maximum and minimum, and daily mean.  Period of record extremes updated to reflect instantaneous maximum and minimum.
