LOCATION - Lat 33°04'20.5", long 88°33'31.6" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NW 1/4 NE 1/4 NE 1/4 sec.16, T.14 N., R.17 E., Noxubee County, MS, Hydrologic Unit 03160108, Choctaw Meridian, over mid-channel on the downstream side of the downstream (northbound) bridge on U.S. Highway 45 near Macon, 2.4 miles south of the Highway 14 and Highway 45 intersection.
DRAINAGE AREA - 768 mi². at the previous gage location. 777 square miles at the current gage location.
REVISIONS HISTORY -

WSP 1624: 1929-30, 1932. WDR MS-78-1: 1977. WDR MS-80-1: Drainage area.

Discharge for the period Oct. 1, 2018, to Sep. 30, 2020, was revised on Dec. 08, 2020, based on changes to the stage-discharge rating.

The maximum discharge for water year 2019 was revised on Dec. 08, 2020, based on changes to the stage-discharge rating.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - August 1928 to September 1932, September 1938 to current year. Monthly discharge only June to September 1932, published in WSP 1304.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 136.9 ft above NAVD88. Prior to May 31, 1932, nonrecording gage at site 40 ft downstream of Highway 245 at different datum. Sept. 21, 1938 to Aug. 10, 1939, nonrecording gage at a different site and datum. From August 1939 to December 2013 a continuous recorder 2.9 miles upstream at Highway 245 at different datum. December 5, 2013 to present a current site and datum.
REMARKS - Records good, except for periods of estimated data, which are considered poor.. Water stage recorder and satellite telemeter at station.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood in July 1892 reached a stage of about 34 ft, present site and datum, from information by local residents. Flood in December 1926 reached a stage of about 30 ft.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge 125,000 cfs; Gage height 38.97 feet; Date April 13, 1979.
