LOCATION - Lat 31°40'51", long 89°06'56" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NW 1/4 NE 1/4 NE 1/4 sec.08, T.8 N., R.11 W., Jones County, MS, Hydrologic Unit 03170005, St. Stephens Meridian, on right bank 45 ft upstream of bridge on State Highway 15, 0.5 mi upstream from Illinois Central and Gulf Railroad bridge, 0.5 mi southeast of city limits of Laurel, 13.1 mi upstream from Tallahoma Creek, and 54.0 mi from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 238 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR MS-80-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - September 1938 to current year.
GAGE -

Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 200.71 ft above NAVD of 1988 (Reference Frame NAD_83 (2011) (EPOCH:2010.0000), (GEOID18).

 

Prior to August 23, 2022 the datum of Gage was 201.37 ft above NGVD of 1929 (Mississippi Department of Transportation bench mark). Prior to Dec. 14, 1938, nonrecording gage at same site and datum.

REMARKS - Records good, except for periods of estimated data which are considered poor. Satellite telemeter at station.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum stage known since at least 1880, about 26 ft (38,300 cfs), Dec. 9, 1919. Flood in April 1900 reached a stage of about 24 ft (26,600 cfs), from information by local residents. Flood in April 1938 reached a stage of 20.7 ft(13,300 cfs), from information by Mississippi Department of Transportation.
