LOCATION - Lat 47°32'16", long 97°27'11" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in sec.19, T.147 N., R.53 W., Traill County, ND, Hydrologic Unit 09020109, on downstream side of bridge on State Highway 18, 1.2 mi upstream from unnamed tributary, 4 mi downstream from Beaver Creek, and 5 mi northwest of Portland.

DRAINAGE AREA - 517 mi² of which 110 mi² probably is noncontributing.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - DAILY DISCHARGE--October 1939 to September 1975; water year 1976 (annual maximum only); October 1980 to September 1986 (seasonal records only water years 1983-86); March 2010 to current year (seasonal records only).

GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 961.71 ft above North American Vertical Datum 1988 (NAVD88, Survey by USGS) and 960.44 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum 1929 (NGVD29, levels by NDSWC, June 2011).

Previous locations and datums are as follows:

October 1, 1938 to September 30, 1956; A non-recording gage at site 2 mi upstream. Datum was 978.76 ft above NGVD29.

October 1, 1956 to September 30, 1975; Water-stage recorder gage at site 75 ft upstream. Datum was 967.46 ft above NGVD29.

October 1, 1980 to September 30, 1986; Water-stage recorder gage at site 75 ft upstream. Datum was 967.46 ft above NGVD29.

REMARKS - Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for the 2021 water year, when record was fair. Estimated discharges are poor, unless otherwise noted.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of April 20, 1979, reached a stage of 28.00 ft, present datum, from floodmark; discharge not determined.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum peak flow, 8,530 ft³/s, May 9, 1950, on basis of contracted opening measurement at site 2 mi upstream. Maximum peak stage, 27.10 ft, present datum (20.12 ft, site and datum then in use).
