LOCATION - Lat 48°51'55", long 98°00'20" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SE 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.10, T.162 N., R.57 W., Cavalier County, ND, Hydrologic Unit 09020316, on right bank 10 ft upstream from county bridge, 3.5 mi above mouth, and 6 mi southwest of Walhalla.
DRAINAGE AREA - 182 mi² of which 10 mi² probably is noncontributing.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - DAILY DISCHARGE--April 1956 to September 1982, March 2001 to current year. April 1997, miscellaneous discharge measurements only.

PERIOD OF RECORD.--DAILY GAGE HEIGHT--March 2001 to current year.
GAGE - Datum of gage is 1102.18 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). Datum was converted to NAVD88 datum using the National Geodetic Survey VDATUM. Prior to conversion to NAVD88 datum was published as 1,101.04 ft above NGVD29   (survey by North Dakota State Water Commission, June 2004)

April 1956 to September 1982; On right bank 25 ft upstream of county bridge,  datum 1,099.48 ft above NGVD29

REMARKS -

Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records fair except for the 2022 water year, when record was good.  Estimated discharges are poor, unless otherwise noted.

REGULATION.-- Possible regulation at Mt. Carmel Dam, northwest of Langdon.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - A discharge of 5,080 ft³/s, gage height, unknown, was measured on April 24, 1997. A high-water mark 3 ft higher than gage height of measurement was observed.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum peak flow, 6,600 ft³/s, April 25, 1970, peak stage, 13.95 ft, site and datum then in use. Maximum peak stage, 14.38 ft, April 17, 1962, backwater from ice, site and datum then in use.

The highest daily mean of 5,010 ft³/s, May 20, 2013, is from a graph of partial daily record, observations by USGS personnel, and floodmark information.
