05315000 REDWOOD RIVER NEAR MARSHALL, MN
LOCATION - Lat 44°25'48.6", long 95°49'46.4" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NW 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.07, T.111 N., R.42 W., Lyon County, MN, Hydrologic Unit 07020006, 2.8 miles southwest of intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and State Highway 23 at east edge of town of Marshall, MN, on left bank just upstream from walking-path bridge over Redwood River.
DRAINAGE AREA - 259 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR MN-89-2: Drainage area. Unpublished: 1977(M).
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - March 1940 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1308.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. April 9, 1980 to June 30, 2012, recording gage 1.8 miles upstream from present site. Datum of gage was 1,188.23 ft above sea level (NGVD of 1929). March 1940 to April 9, 1980, non-recording gage 3.8 mi downstream from first recording site at datum 43.35 ft lower (crest-stage gage added June 12, 1968). From March 1964 to April 1980, non-recording gage and crest-stage gage on diversion channel 3.8 mi downstream at datum 1,100.00 ft above sea level. From October 1977 to April 1980, manometer with continous recorder in walk-in type shelter located 800 ft above diversion structure at southwest edge of City of Marshall.  Gage relocated August 31, 2011, in Wayside Park, 1.5 miles downstream of the relocated gage.  Gage contains a  Sutron Satlink2 DCP,  and Sutron Constant Flow bubble system located in a 2.5x1.5x6 ft Hoffman shelter.  Record at new gage started July 1, 2012.
REMARKS - Water diverted at medium and high stages into diversion channel 3.4 mi below station. Diversion began Mar. 18, 1964. Unknown amount of natural diversion into Cottonwood River basin occurs at extremely high stages 0.8 mi below station.

Records good except estimated daily-mean discharges, which are poor.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 6,380 ft³/s, gage height, 17.00 ft, May. 9, 1993 (at old gage upstream of Cottonwood Diversion so includes flow into Cottonwood unlike other annual peaks in record);  Maximum gage height, 17.41 ft, Maximum discharge 3,430 ft³/s, July 3 2018; Minimum discharge, 0.00 ft³/s, many days, several years (new gage site).
