LOCATION - Lat 43°25'35", long 89°43'40" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in SW 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.13, T.11 N., R.6 E., Sauk County, WI, Hydrologic Unit 07070004, in Devils Lake State Park, 3.5 mi south of Baraboo.
DRAINAGE AREA - 4.79 mi². Area of Devils Lake, 361 acres.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR WI-78-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - June 1922 to August 1930, June to August 1932, June 1934 to September 1981 (fragmentary). October 1981 to September 1984, data unpublished in district files. October 1984 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder installed July 17, 1991. Datum of gage is 954.88 ft, above NAVD of 1988. The "Ordinary High Water Mark" established by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, is based on the gage datum of 955.00 NGVD29 which was used prior to water year 2009 and is equivalent to 954.88 NAVD88.
REMARKS - Lake has no surface outlet. Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources operated its permanent 5,500 ft long (4,150 ft in the lake) 20-inch diameter bottom withdrawal pipe system (to reduce high lake levels and remove high phosphorus concentrations)
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum observed daily mean, 14.45 ft, June 13, 2008; minimum observed, 1.49 ft, Feb. 8, 1965.
