GAGE - Water stage recorder. Elevation of gage is 1085 ft above NAVD of 1988, from topographic map.
REMARKS - Records are considered fair except for estimated daily discharges which are poor and other periods as noted. For records status prior to October 1, 2013, see remarks printed in annual water-data reports. Gage-height telemeter at station.
CLIMATOLOGICAL RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - July 2010 to current year (non-frozen precipitation).
INSTRUMENTATION - Tipping bucket rain gage with electronic datalogger.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum daily rainfall, 2.96 in., Aug. 13, 2010.
REMARKS - Data are recorded to the nearest 5 or 15 minutes in the datalogger. Records are good except for estimated days, which are fair. All unit values and daily values are stored in ADAPS. Note: this station is well shielded from wind by surrounding bluffs, so there tends to be more snow that stays in the funnel compared to the surrounding gages. It difficult to interpret and remove all of the snowmelt vs. rainfall tips. Consequently, there tended to be more rainfall at this site than the surrounding rain gages. In addition, there is likely significantly less wind here, which may also contribute to generally higher rainfall amounts when compared with surrounding rain gages. Precipitation.-- Data are recorded to the nearest 5 or 15 minutes in the datalogger. Rainfall estimated to be 0.00 for Nov. 23-24, Dec. 28, Jan. 9, 20, 28, Feb. 7-8, 16, 18, Mar. 3, 5, 19, 24-25, 27, and Apr. 1-2 because recorded precipitation was interpreted as collector snowmelt. Collector snowmelt was removed from the record. Daily values are marked as estimated on Dec. 20, Jan. 7-8, 30, and Feb. 19 because recorded precipitation was interpreted as a combination of rainfall and some collector snowmelt. Daily values are estimated for Nov. 30 - Dec. 1 and Mar. 8 - 15 from station 434209090491101 DISCOVERY FARMS-JERSEY WATERWAY 1 NEAR CASHTON, WI due to rain gage malfunction.
