LOCATION - Lat 41°34'13", long 88°04'46" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NE 1/4 SW 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.27, T.36 N., R.10 E., Will County, IL, Hydrologic Unit 07120004, on right bank 158 ft. upstream from sluice gate at Lockport Lock and Power Plant on Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal, 1.1 mi upstream from Des Plaines River, 1.7 mi southwest of Lockport, and at mile 1.1. Auxiliary gage 287 ft. upstream from base gage.
DRAINAGE AREA - 740 mi².

  DISCHARGE: February 1900 to 1982. Prior to October 1936,
    only monthly discharge published in WSP 1308.

GAGE - Water-stage recorder (auxiliary). Datum of gage is 579.48 ft above NGVD of 1929 (Chicago City datum) (579.20 ft NAVD 1988).
REMARKS - Prior to October 1982, discharge computed from flow thru turbines, sluice gates, locks, leakage, and over dam for the purpose of providing flow data essential to determine Illinois' diversion of Lake Michigan water. A U.S. Supreme Court Decree of June 12, 1967, limits Illinois' diversion to an average of 3,200 ft³/s. Illinois' diversion includes stormwater runoff from a 673 mi² diverted watershed area and water diverted from the lake for domestic water supply, navigation and water-quality improvement in the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal system. Flows recorded at this station also include nondiversion flows.
