05550001 FOX RIVER (TAILWATER) AT ALGONQUIN, IL

LOCATION - Lat 42°09'43", long 88°17'38" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in SE 1/4 SW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.34, T.43 N., R.8 E., McHenry County, IL, Hydrologic Unit 07120006, on right bank 1,830 ft downstream from bridge on State Highway 62 (Algonquin Road) in Algonquin, 1,730 ft downstream from Algonquin Dam, and at mile 81.2.

DRAINAGE AREA - 1,429 mi². Site prior to October 2009; 1,403 mi².

GAGE - Water-stage recorder, satellite telemeter, and water quality monitor. Datum of gage is 719.22 ft above NAVD of 1988. Prior to Oct. 20, 1933, non-recording gage at site 1,880 ft upstream at same datum. October 20, 1933 to September 30, 2009, recording gage at site 1,900 ft upstream at same datum, discharge published as Fox River at Algonquin (05550000). Discharges are considered equivalent. October 1, 2009 to September 30, 2012, recording gage at site 1,590 ft upstream at same datum.

REMARKS - Flows regulated by gate in Algonquin Dam. Adjustable gate installed in Algonquin Dam during 2002. Stratton Lock and Dam (previously known as McHenry Dam) 16 mi upstream from station. Accuracy of records is discussed in the annual Station Analysis archived at the USGS IL Water Science Center.

WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum, 30.0oC, July 27-28, 2016; Minimum, 4.6oC, Nov. 22 & 26, 2016.
SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Maximum, 1310 uS/cm at 25oC, June 14, 2017; minimum, 442 uS/cm at 25oC, July 17, 2017.
DISSOLVED OXYGEN: Maximum, 14.9 mg/L, Aug 8, 2017; minimum, 3.46 mg/L, Jul. 27, 2017.
