LOCATION - Lat 46°05'30", long 101°20'00" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in sec.09, T.130 N., R.85 W., Grant County, ND, Hydrologic Unit 10130205, on left bank at upstream side of bridge on N.D. Highway 31, 6 mi upstream from mouth, and 19 mi south of Raleigh.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,750 mi². approximately.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - DAILY DISCHARGE--April to September 1939, April 1962 to current year.

PERIOD OF RECORD.--DAILY GAGE HEIGHT--October 2000 to current year.
GAGE -

Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1882.8 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD29) datum was converted to NAVD88 datum using the National Geodetic Surveys VDATUM transformation tool in November, 2017. Prior to October 1, 2017, datum was published as 1881.23 ft above the NGVD29.

Previous locations and datums are as follows:

Prior to June 6, 1962; Wire weight gage at same site and datum (From WSP 1917 for history).

June 6, 1962 to September 7, 1972; Site located  mi upstream at the datum 1,892.38 ft NAVD88.

REMARKS - Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for estimated discharges, which are poor, unless otherwise noted
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum peak known from 1950 to gage start-up in April 1962: Maximum peak flow, 45,000 ft³/s, April 18, 1950, on basis of slope-area measurement 5 mi upstream, peak stage about 18 ft, site and datum then in use.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum peak flow, about 16,000 ft³/s, March 23, 2009, maximum peak stage, 20.59 ft, backwater from ice.
