LOCATION - Lat 43°20'42", long 103°26'12" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NE 1/4 NW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.20, T.8 S., R.6 E., Fall River County, SD, Hydrologic Unit 10120109, on right bank 800 ft downstream from Angostura Dam, 4.8 mi upstream from Fall River, and 6.5 mi southeast of Hot Springs.
DRAINAGE AREA - 9,097 mi² of which 5 mi² probably is noncontributing.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1309: 1946(M). WDR SD-78-1: 1962(M), 1967(M), 1971(M). WDR SD-10-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1945 to current year, seasonal records only beginning October 1978. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1309.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 3,060.30 ft above NAVD88. Prior to Oct. 17, 1946, nonrecording gage and Oct. 17, 1946, to Jul. 7, 1953, water-stage recorder at site 4.8 mi downstream at different datum.
REMARKS - Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for June 5-9, 2015, Feb. 1, 2018 to Apr. 26, 2018, April 11, 2022 to June 13, 2022, which are fair and estimated discharges, which are poor, unless otherwise noted. Flow regulated by Angostura Dam 800 ft upstream since October 1949. Bureau of Reclamation satellite data-collection platform at station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 30,300 ft³/s, from rating curve extended above 12,000 ft³/s, May 20, 1978, gage height, 15.97 ft; minimum daily discharge 0.00 ft³/s, Oct. 9, 1949 to Feb. 5, 1950 and Apr. 28, Aug. 26, 30, 1951.
