LOCATION - Lat 44°37'03.00", long 103°28'49.00" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NW 1/4 NE 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.35, T.8 N., R.5 E., Butte County, SD, Hydrologic Unit 10120202, on right bank at point where South Canal crosses creek, 3.2 mi above mouth, and 3.7 mi west of Vale.
DRAINAGE AREA - 102 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - November 1982 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 2,849.10 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88).
REMARKS - Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for Apr. 18, 2018 to Sept. 30, 2018 and May 21, 2019 to June 3, 2019, which are fair, and estimated discharges, which are poor, unless otherwise noted. Diversions upstream from station for irrigation of about 800 acres. Satellite data-collection platform at station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 4,500 ft³/s, on basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow, June 5, 2008, gage height, 7.29, from floodmarks; minimum daily discharge, 0.00 ft³/s, July 21, 1985, no flow at times in some years.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - January 1983 to current year.
REMARKS - Water-quality samples are collected approximately four times per year: winter/under ice cover, spring/snowmelt, storm/high flow, and late summer/low flow.
