06481000 BIG SIOUX RIVER NEAR DELL RAPIDS, SD

LOCATION - Lat 43°47'25.7", long 96°44'43.2" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.29, T.104 N., R.49 W., Minnehaha County, SD, Hydrologic Unit 10170203, on left bank at downstream side of county highway bridge, 0.2 mi downstream from confluence of divided channels, and 3.0 mi southwest of Dell Rapids.

DRAINAGE AREA - 3,927 mi² of which 870 mi² probably is noncontributing. Documented runoff occurred during Water Years 1994-2002 for 213 mi² of the usually noncontributing area.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

GAGE -

Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 1,456.94 ft above the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88) and 1,455.99 feet above the National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD29).

Prior Datums are as follows:

Prior to Nov. 11, 1949, nonrecording gage and Nov. 11, 1949, to Sept. 30, 1951, water-stage recorder, at present site at datum of 1,455.95 feet above the National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD29).

REMARKS - Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except those for July 12, 2016 to Sept. 30, 2016 and July 8, 2022 to Aug. 15, 2022, which are fair and those for estimated discharges, which are poor. Satellite data-collection platform at station.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Minimum daily discharge, 0.00 ft³/s, Aug. 25 and 26 to Oct. 17, 1976.
