06849000 Harlan County Lake near Republican City, Nebr.

LOCATION - Lat 40°04'20", long 99°12'43" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NE 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.11, T.1 N., R.17 W., Harlan County, NE, Hydrologic Unit 10250009, at left end of spillway on upstream side of Harlan County Dam on Republican River, 2 mi southeast of Republican City, and 8 mi southeast of Alma.

DRAINAGE AREA - 20,810 mi² of which 7,280 mi² probably is noncontributing.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - November 1952 to current year. Prior to October 1965 published as Harlan County Reservoir near Republican City.

GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry. Datum of gage is at National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.

COOPERATION - Reservoir Elevation-Capacity Table furnished by Corps of Engineers (revised Jan. 1, 2001).

REMARKS - Reservoir is formed by earthfill dam with gravity-type concrete spillway section; storage began Nov. 14, 1952. Capacity, 313,700 acre-ft between elevations 1,885.0 ft, sill of outlet gates, and 1,946.0 ft, top of storage pool. Top of flood-control pool at elevation 1,973.5 ft, capacity, 814,100 acre-ft. Top of superstorage flood-control pool at elevation 1,975.5 ft, capacity, 861,900 acre-ft. Figures given herein represent total contents. Water used for irrigation in Bostwick irrigation project.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum contents observed, 504,000 acre-ft, July 23, 2019, elevation, 1,958.18 ft; minimum since operation of reservoir began, 110,300 acre-ft, Oct. 22 to Nov. 6, 1953, elevation, 1,922.00 ft.

EXTREMES FOR 2017 WATER YEAR - Maximum contents, 262,400 acre-ft on June 05, elevation 1,941.71 ft; minimum contents, 192,900 acre-ft on October 25, elevation 1,935.22 ft.
