LOCATION - Lat 36°31'02", long 98°52'45" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SW 1/4 NW 1/4 NE 1/4 sec.35, T.24 N., R.16 W., Woods County, OK, Hydrologic Unit 11050001, near left bank on downstream side of bridge on U.S. Highway 281, 4.0 mi south of Waynoka, and at mile 247.0.
DRAINAGE AREA - 13,399 mi² of which 4,028 mi² probably is noncontributing. from automated delineation using 10-meter National Elevation Dataset digital elevation model data dated 10/01/2006 and Watershed Boundary Dataset dated 10/01/2006, using Albers Equal-Area Projection, North American Datum 1983.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR 2012: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - September 1903 to December 1905 (gage heights and discharge measurements only), October 1937 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1311.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1367.97 feet above NAVD of 1988. The NAVD of 1988 datum was determined by a Level II GNSS survey (Reference Frame NAD_83(2011) (EPOCH:2010.0000) ITRF2014 (EPOCH:2022.5935) (GEOID18) by USGS on 8/5/2022 and tied to RM-15. Prior to 8/5/2022 the datum of gage was 1,367.35 ft above NGVD of 1929. From Sept. 1978 to Oct. 25, 1956, a water-stage recorder located at same site and datum 0.15 ft higher. From Oct. 24, 1956 to Mar. 4, 1938, located on former highway bridge 50 ft downstream at datum 0.15 ft higher. From Mar. 3, 1938 to Feb. 4, 1938, a nonrecording gage on former highway bridge 50 ft downstream at datum 0.15 ft higher. From Dec. 1905 to Sept 1903 nonrecording gage at the railroad bridge 5 mi upstream at different datum.
REMARKS - 10/01/2022 - 09/30/2023: records poor. Diversions for irrigation above station.  Quality of data for other periods can be obtained by contacting the Oklahoma-Texas Water Science Center. 
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - A stage of about 14 ft occurred probably in 1914.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum peak flow of 94,500 ft³/s, May 16, 1957, from rating curve extended above 45,000 ft³/s on basis of contracted-opening measurement of peak flow. No flow most years.
