07344484 Lake Cypress Springs near Mount Vernon, TX
LOCATION - Lat 33°03'58", long 95°09'32" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Franklin County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 11140305, located on north shore of lake near lake patrol office, approximately 1.0 mi upstream of centerline of dam on Big Cypress Creek, 2.5 mi upstream from Andy's Creek, 2.1 mi downstream from Panther Creek, and 10.3 mi southeast of Mount Vernon.
DRAINAGE AREA - 75 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Oct. 1973 to Sept. 1991, June 1998 to Sept. 2002 (contents), Oct. 2002 to current year. PERIOD OF RECORD, Water-Quality.-- CHEMICAL DATA: July 1975 to Apr. 1984.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is NGVD of 1929. Prior to Apr. 24, 1977, recording gage located at left end of dam. Apr. 25, 1977 to Sept. 30, 1991, recording gage located in brick meter house near center of dam. Satellite telemeter at station.
REMARKS - Some records listed in the "Period of Record" for surface water and water quality may not be available electronically. The lake is formed by a rolled earthfill dam 5,230 ft long. The dam is owned by the Franklin County Water District and the Texas Water Development Board. Deliberate impoundment began July 7, 1970, and the dam was completed Feb. 15, 1971. The spillway is an excavated channel cut through natural ground 1,000 ft wide, located to the left of left end of dam. The service spillway is a rectangular 23- by 23-ft drop inlet located near the right end of dam. The low-flow outlet works consist of an 18 in diameter concrete pipe that has duplicate valve controls and discharges into the service spillway conduit.
