LOCATION - Lat 30°19'20", long 96°31'32" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Burleson County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 12070102, in intake structure of Somerville Dam on Yegua Creek, at the southwest edge of the city limits of Somerville, and 20.0 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,007 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Feb. 1966 to Sept. 2000 (midnight contents furnished by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers), Oct. 2000 to Jan. 2004 (daily mean contents). Oct. 2000 to current year. Prior to Oct. 1970, published as "Somerville Reservoir". PERIOD OF RECORD, Water-Quality.-- CHEMICAL DATA: Mar. 1970 to Sept. 1977. BIOCHEMICAL DATA: Mar. 1970 to Sept. 1977.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is NGVD of 1929. Satellite telemeter at station.
COOPERATION - Prior to Oct. 1, 2000, record of contents furnished by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and reviewed by the U.S. Geological Survey. A new capacity table, provided by Texas Water Development Board, was put into use Oct. 1, 1995.
REMARKS - Records fair, except for elevations below 233 ft, which are poor. The lake is formed by a rolled earthfill dam 20,210 ft long, with a 4,715-ft-long dike and a 1,250-ft long uncontrolled spillway. Deliberate impoundment began Jan. 3, 1967, and the dam was completed Oct. 27, 1967. The spillway is an uncontrolled ogee weir 1,250 ft wide located near right end of dam. The low-flow outlet consists of one 10.0-ft-diameter conduit that is controlled by two 5.0- by 10.0-ft tractor-type gates. The dam is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The lake was designed for flood control and water conservation. Data regarding the dam are given in the following table:
