LOCATION - Lat 37°04'31", long 113°35'32" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SE 1/4 SW 1/4 NE 1/4 sec.01, T.43 S., R.16 W., Washington County, UT, Hydrologic Unit 15010008, Hydrologic Unit 15010008 on left bank 0.9 mi upstream from mouth and 2 mi south of St. George.
DRAINAGE AREA - 541 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1950 to September 1956, November 1984 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 2,545.14 ft. above NAVD of 1988 from a Level II GNSS survey conducted on February 10, 2021. October 1950 to September 1956, gage located 1.25 mi downstream at different datum. November 19, 1984 to May 4, 2011, 0.50 mi downstream from present site, both at same datum. May 4, 2011 at present location at same datum.
REMARKS - Records generally good except estimated discharges which are fair to poor. Some regulation by outflow from Gunlock Reservoir (capacity 10,900 acre-feet) about 20 mi upstream. Many diversions for irrigation upstream of station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 7,730 ft³/s (estimated), Dec 21, 2010, gage height, 13.59 ft; no flow at times in 1951, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1989, 1991, and 2003.
