LOCATION - Lat 37°33'30.16", long 114°33'47" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in SW 1/4 NE 1/4 sec.35, T.4 S., R.66 E., Lincoln County, NV, Hydrologic Unit 15010013, on right bank, 0.5 mi east of Etna, 4.5 mi southwest of Caliente, and 6 mi downstream from Clover Creek.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,670 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - The maximum gage height and discharge for water year 1993 was revised on December 22, 2021, based on typographical error causing lower discharge peak to be published.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Jan. 1951 to Sep. 1960, Nov. 1964 to Sep. 1983, Oct. 1984 to Jan. 2005, and April 2005 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Elevation of gage is 4,200 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929, by barometer. Prior to Jun. 16, 1955, at site 1.8 mi downstream at different datum. From Oct. 29, 1998 to Jan. 2005 at site 2.0 mi upstream at different datum.
REMARKS - Flow regulated to some extent at high flows since 1957 by Pine Canyon and Mathews Canyon Reservoirs and by other reservoirs (combined capacity of the five most effective about 26,000 acre-ft). Several diversions for irrigation above station.10/01/2013-09/30/2014: No estimated daily discharges. Records fair except for flows over 30 ft³/s, which are poor. 10/01/2014-09 /30/2015: Records poor. 10/01/2015-09/30/2016: Records poor. 10/01/2016-09/30/2017: Records poor. 10/01/2017-09/30/2018: Records poor. 10/01/2018-09/30/2019: Records poor. 10/01/2019-09/30/2020: Records poor. 10/01/2020-09/30/2021: Records poor. 
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of Mar. 3, 1938, discharge about 15,000 ft³/s at Caliente as estimated by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Flood of Jan 1, 1910, discharge about 11,000 ft³/s at Caliente as estimated by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 8,000 ft³/s, Jan. 10, 2005, gage height 23.36 ft (datum then in use); no flow at times, some years.
