LOCATION - Lat 33°25'35", long 117°34'10" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SW 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.36, T.8 S., R.7 W., San Diego County, CA, Hydrologic Unit 18070301, on Camp Joseph H. Pendleton Naval Reservation, on left bank, at San Mateo Creek Road crossing, 0.5 mi upstream from confluence with San Mateo Creek, and 2.3 mi east of San Clemente.
DRAINAGE AREA - 31.6 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR CA-2005: 2003 (peaks above base).
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1993 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder, crest-stage gage, and culvert control. Datum of gage is 93.10 ft above NAVD of 1988. October 1993 to Feb. 23, 1998, two water-stage recorders (one on each of two main channels) at same site at different datums. Gage destroyed by flood of Feb. 23, 1998, and was out of operation until Sept. 30, 1999, when it was relocated at present site.
REMARKS - No regulation or diversion upstream from station.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of Jan. 16, 1952, reached a discharge of 1,800 ft³/s, gage height, 8.86 ft, datum then in use, at site 1.8 mi upstream (station 11046350), on basis of slope-area measurement.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 5,800 ft³/s, estimated, Feb. 23, 1998, gage height unknown, on basis of drainage area relation with the peak on San Mateo Creek near San Clemente (station 11046300) and slope-area measurement of peak flow; maximum observed gage height, 12.40 ft, Dec. 22, 2011; no flow most of each year.
