11158600 San Benito River below Hospital Road Bridge near Hollister, CA
LOCATION - Lat 36°49'00.30", long 121°23'33.65" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, San Benito County, CA, Hydrologic Unit 18060002, in San Justo Grant, on right bank, at downstream side of bridge on Hospital Road, and 2.5 mi southeast of Hollister.
DRAINAGE AREA - 596 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1970 to current year. Prior to December 2023, published as "San Benito River at Highway 156 near Hollister".  December 2023 gage was relocated from San Juan Hollister Road location to Hospital Road Bridge, approximately 3.2 miles upstream from previous location.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 239.51 ft above NAVD of 1988 at gage datum previously in use at previous location. Gage datum lowered by 3.00 ft on Oct. 1, 1999, to account for channel scour caused by 1998 flood at datum previously in use at previous location.
REMARKS - Low flows regulated by Hernandez Reservoir 73 mi upstream, capacity, 18,500 acre-ft. Some diversions upstream from station for irrigation, and inter-basin transfer to Tres Pinos Creek for ground-water recharge. Percolation ponds are constructed upstream from station during summer months.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 34,500 ft³/s, Feb. 3, 1998, gage height, 13.48 ft, at datum then in use, from rating curve extended above 3,200 ft³/s, on basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow; no flow for many days in most years.
