LOCATION - Lat 37°06'41", long 120°35'22" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NE 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.31, T.9 S., R.13 E., Merced County, CA, Hydrologic Unit 18040001, on left bank, 0.16 mi upstream from W. Washington Road bridge, and 5.6 mi southwest of El Nido.
DRAINAGE AREA - 6,443 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1939 to June 1949, October 2009 to September 2014 (discontinued).
GAGE - Datum of gage is 105 ft above NGVD of 1929, from topographical map. Prior to October 2009, 5.86 ft lower.
COOPERATION - Records provided by California Department of Water Resources, under the general supervision of the U.S. Geological Survey.
REMARKS - Records for Water Year 2014 were not furnished for review. Practically entire flow of river and tributaries diverted during irrigation season. Record shows flow in main channel of San Joaquin River only and does not include flow in sloughs. During period of high water, flow bypasses this station through Mariposa Slough. No flow in Mariposa Slough during water years 1948-49.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge (1944-49), 3,120 ft³/s, Feb. 9, 1945, gage height, 10.84 ft, present datum); no flow at times (result of irrigation operations). Maximum discharge (October 1948 to June 1949), 84 ft³/s, Jan. 2, gage height, 2.75 ft; no flow during several months (result of irrigation operations).
