12427000 LITTLE SPOKANE RIVER AT ELK, WA
LOCATION - Lat 48°01'20", long 117°16'19" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NW 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.08, T.29 N., R.44 E., Spokane County, WA, Hydrologic Unit 17010308, 0.6 mi upstream from and northeast of Elk, 3.0 mi upstream from Dry Creek, and at mile 37.6.
DRAINAGE AREA - 115 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - July 1948 to September 1971 at site located approximately 150 ft downstream, records equivalent. 1972 to 1979 (peak discharges), 1973, 1977, 1979 to 1982, 1984, 1985 and 2001 (discharge measurements only) , June 2008 to September 2019 (discontinued).
GAGE - Water stage recorder. Elevation of gage is 1840 ft above NGVD of 1929, from topographic map. Prior to September 30, 1971, at site 150 ft downstream at datum then in use.
REMARKS - No regulation, some diversions for irrigation upstream. U. S. Geological Survey satellite telemeter at station.
  • Water Years 2014, 2017, 2018: No estimated daily discharges, records good.
  • Water Years 2015, 2016: Records good except for estimated daily discharges which are fair.
  • Water Year 2019: No estimated discharges, records fair.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 205 ft³/s January 16, 1974, gage height 2.27 ft, datum then in use; maximum gage height 12.70 ft March 18, 2017 ; minimum discharge, 12 ft³/s Dec. 7, 2009, result of freezeup.
