LOCATION - Lat 62°23'57", long 150°08'00" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Matanuska-Susitna Borough, AK, Hydrologic Unit 19020501, Talkeetna B1 Quad, NE 1/4, NE 1/4, SE 1/4, Sec.26, T. 27 N, R. 5 W., 5 miles upstream from the confluence of the Chulitna and Susitna Rivers, or 6.5 miles north of Talkeetna.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Water years 1982-85, May 2012 to September 2014.
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: May 2012 to September 2014(seasonal). TURBIDITY: May 2012 to September 2014 (seasonal).
INSTRUMENTATION - Multi-probe water-quality monitor recorder set to 15-minute recording interval.
REMARKS - WATER TEMPERATURE: Data for period May 19 - June 30, 2014 rated poor; data for period July 1 - September 30, 2014 rated good. Records represent water temperature at the sensor within 0.2°C. Water temperature at the sensor was compared with the cross section stream average on May 12 and 21, June 30, July 30, September 17, 2014. Stream is fairly well-mixed. The maximum difference between mean stream water temperature and sensor temperature was 0.4°C, occurring May 21. Maximum variation within the cross sections was 0.3°C, occurring May 12. TURBIDITY: Data for period May 19 - September 30, 2014 rated fair. Records represent turbidity at the sensor. Turbidity at the sensor was compared with the cross section stream average on May 12 and 21, June 30, July 30, September 17, 2014. Stream is fairly well-mixed. The maximum difference between median stream turbidity and sensor turbidity was 6 Formazin Nephelometric Units (FNU) (24% difference), occurring May 21, 2014. Maximum variation of 10 Formazin Nephelometric Units (FNU)(12%) within the cross sections, occurring May 12.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: Minimum, 0.0°C, many days during winter period.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum recorded, 17.9°C, July 30, 2013, minimum, 0.0°C many days during fall, winter, and spring periods. TURBIDITY: Maximum recorded, 1020 FNU, July 25 and 26, 2012, though may have been higher during period of probe burial, September 21-25, 2012; minimum, 4.8 FNU, September 15, 2012.
