Station operated in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Miami Conservancy District.
03274000 Great Miami River at Hamilton, OH
LOCATION.-- Lat 39°23'28", long 84°34'20", Butler County, OH, Hydrologic
Unit 05080002, on right bank 1,000 ft downstream from Columbia Bridge at Hamilton,
Ohio, 3 mi downstream from Four Mile Creek, 4.3 mi upstream from Pleasant Run, and
     at mile 34.8.
 DRAINAGE AREA.-- 3,630 mi2.
PERIOD OF RECORD.-- January 1907 to June 1909 (fragmentary), January 1910 to September
1918, April 1927 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published
in WSP 1305. Gage-height records collected at site 0.7 mi upstream since 1911 are
contained in reports of National Weather Service. Prior to October 1962 published
     as Miami River at Hamilton.
REVISED RECORDS.-- WSP 803: 1936. WSP 1908: Drainage area.
REMARKS.-- Flood flow regulated by five retarding basins upstream from station beginning
in 1920 plus other reservoirs. See REMARKS for stations 03270500 and 03272000. Also,
low flow slightly regulated by Acton Lake, 25 mi upstream from station on Four Mile
Creek. Recharge to the City of Hamilton wellfield is largely induced infiltration
from the Great Miami River. Groundwater pumpage upstream from the station is returned
to the river as treated wastewater 1.5 mi downstream from the station. Also, a small
amount of water pumped from groundwater farther upstream is diverted to the Little
Miami River watershed through the Montgomery County regional system. This pumpage could
affect low flow. The Miami and Erie Canal diverted water from the basin 1.7 mi upstream
from station until Nov. 1, 1930, when the canal was abandoned; amount of diversion is
not known. Water-temperature data formerly collected at this site.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD.-- Flood of Mar. 26, 1913, reached a stage of 38.5 ft,
site and datum then in use; discharge, 352,000 ft3/s, computed by Miami Conservancy
     District.
