Station gage imageSTATION.--01576000 SUSQUEHANNA RIVER AT MARIETTA, PA
LOCATION.--Lat 40`03'16", long 76`31'52", Lancaster County, Hydrologic Unit 02050306, on left bank 420 ft upstream from Chickies Creek, and 1.0 mi downstream from Marietta. Records include flow of Chickies Creek.
DRAINAGE AREA.--25,990 mi2, includes that of Chickies Creek.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--October 1931 to current year.
GAGE.--Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 200.56 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.
GAGE HEIGHTS OF IMPORTANCE.-
Supplied by USGS: Maximum recordable gage height (stage sensor operational limit) - 67.1 ft; Data transmitter operational limit - 68.8 ft;
Supplied by NWS: Action stage-44 ft, the right or west bank overflows; Some roadways affected; Flood stage-49 ft, Front Street in Wrightsville floods. Low lying areas of Rte 624 on the right or west bank and along Rte 441 on the left or east bank are affected. Riverside recreation area is inundated; Moderate flood stage-52 ft, a number of residences in the Wrightsville and Columbia areas begin to be affected; Major flood stage-54 ft, numerous homes and businesses in the Columbia and Wrightsville areas are affected. The Wilton Company in Wrightsville experience high water.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD.--Flood of June 2, 1889, reached a stage of 58.2 ft, from floodmark, discharge, about 630,000 ft3/s.
COOPERATION.--Funding for the operation of this station is provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Safe Harbor Water Power Corporation, and the U.S. Geological Survey through the National Streamflow Information Program.
This station managed by the PAWSC New Cumberland Office.
