Retransmission, forecasts and summary by the National Weather Service
|In the past, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)
has used the Red Bluff Water Power Control District's gage
datum for reporting reservoir stage for Red Bluff Reservoir near
Orla, TX (station 08410000) to maintain continuity with the
historical record. This station is now part of the Texas Water
Development Board's (TWDB) Drought Response & Monitoring
program. More information about their program can be found at their

The USGS "Reservoir Conditions in Texas Page" and the TWDBs summary page of lakes in Texas are set to show reservoir stages referenced to Mean Sea Level (MSL). At the request of the TWDB, the USGS started reporting the reservoir stage for station 08410000 (Red Bluff Reservoir near Orla) referenced to Mean Sea Level (MSL) effective Nov. 1, 2004. USGS stage data for Red Bluff Reservoir will be revised to show MSL elevation as of Oct. 1, 2003. MSL elevations are 0.43 ft higher than Red Bluff Water Power Control District.s gage datum for Red Bluff Reservoir. The elevation of the crest of the service spillway is 2,827.4 ft above MSL, the elevation of the crest of the emergency spillway is 2,845.4 ft above MSL, and the top of the dam is 2,856.4 ft above MSL
USGS capacity curve 2-C dated Oct. 1, 1987 was furnished by Red Bluff Water Power Control District and was developed by Reed and Associates of Midland, TX from aerial photography and topographic mapping of the reservoir by United Mapping of San Antonio, TX and was developed to Red Bluff Water Power Control District's gage datum. MSL elevations are 0.43 ft higher than Red Bluff Water Power Control District's gage datum for Red Bluff Reservoir.
