Warning! May 22, 2013 10:15 EDT: Notice: The GOES-East (GOES-13) is currently out of service. Due to problems encountered, at 6:05 a.m. this morning, a command was initiated to reboot the satellite. The current estimated time for return to service is Thursday, May 23, 2013 in the evening. NOAA switched the feed from GOES East to GOES West. Those sites within the footprint of GOES West will get data; those outside the footprint of GOES West, or with an angle that doesn't reach GOES West will not. NOAA will additionally turn on GOES-14, but not move it. Since it is further East, we should pick up more of the missing stations.

LOCATION.--Lat 39`58'04", long 75`11'20", Philadelphia County, Hydrologic Unit 02040203, on right bank 150 ft upstream from Fairmount Dam, 1,500 ft upstream from bridge on Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia, and 8.7 mi upstream from mouth. Water-quality sampling site 1.6 mi upstream.
DRAINAGE AREA.--1,893 mi2.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--October 1931 to current year. Records for January 1898 to December 1912, published in WSP 35, 48, 65, 82, 97, 125, 166, 202, 214, 261, 301, and 381 have been found to be unreliable and should not be used.
GAGE.--Water-stage recorder, water-quality monitor, climatological sensor and concrete control. Datum of gage is 5.74 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Prior to Nov. 25, 1956, water-stage recorder at site on right bank just upstream from Fairmount Dam at same datum. Nov. 26, 1956, to Oct. 6, 1966, water-stage recorder at site on left bank 40 ft upstream from Fairmount Dam at same datum. Satellite telemetry at station.
GAGE HEIGHTS OF IMPORTANCE.-
Supplied by USGS: Maximum recordable gage height (stage sensor operational limit) - 19.4 ft; Data transmitter operational limit - 19.8 ft;
Supplied by NWS: Action stage-10 ft, at 10.4 ft-Kelly Drive floods/closed between North Ferry Road and Falls Bridge; Flood stage-11ft, Kelly Drive is flooded and closed between Hunting Park Avenue and Falls Bridge; Flat Rock area is flooded; Moderate flood stage-13 ft, Main Street in Manayunk is closed from Ridge Avenue to Leverington Street; Major flood stage-15.5 ft.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD.--Flood of Oct. 4, 1869 reached a stage of 17.0 ft, discharge, 135,000 ft3/s, from rating extended above 46,000 ft3/s. Flood of Mar. 1, 1902 reached a stage of 14.8 ft, discharge, 98,000 ft3/s.
COOPERATION.--Funding for the operation of this station is provided by the City of Philadelphia Water Department, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District, and the U.S. Geological Survey through the Cooperative Water Program.
REMARKS.--
The 30-minute precipitation data for this station are temporary and will only be displayed for 120 days. Time series of 1-hour or cumulative daily values will NOT be available for retrieval following the 120-day display period. Although the instrumentation is calibrated at least once a year, the temporary classification means that documented routine inspections and other quality assurance measures are not performed that would make the data acceptable for archival, retrieval, or future use in general scientific or interpretive studies.
This station managed by the Exton Field Office.
