STATION.-- 14362000 APPLEGATE RIVER NEAR COPPER, OR
LOCATION.--Lat 42° 03'50", long 123° 06' 37", in SW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.30, T.40 S., R.3 W., Jackson County, Hydrologic Unit 17100309, U.S. Corps of Engineers land, on left bank 0.1 mi downstream from Brushy Gulch, 0.6 mi downstream from Applegate Dam, 3.1 mi northeast of former town of Copper, and at mile 45.7. DRAINAGE AREA.--225 mi2. PERIOD OF RECORD.--October 1938 to current year. Prior to January 1939 monthly discharge only, published in WSP 1318. GAGE.--Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 1,747.51 ft above NGVD of 1929. Prior to Oct. 1, 1977, at site 0.6 mi upstream at datum 12.15 ft higher. REMARKS.--Flow regulated since December 1980 by Applegate Lake (station 14361900). Some storage during winter in Squaw Lakes Reservoir, capacity, 1,100 acre-ft on Squaw Creek upstream from station. Diversions upstream from station from Carberry Creek for irrigation in Thompson Creek basin. U.S. Geological Survey satellite telemeter at station. EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum discharge, 29,800 ft3/s Jan. 15, 1974, gage height, 25.38 ft, site and datum then in use, from high-water mark in well, from rating curve extended above 12,000 ft3/s on basis of four slope-area measurements of peak flows made in 1950, 1955, 1964, and 1974; minimum discharge, 1.5 ft3/s Dec. 20, 1980, result of regulation at Applegate dam, 0.6 mi upstream.
